Above all else, if this ideal person ever makes me feel like I'm a burden or like I am just an option to him/her then they most certainly are not ideal. I expect my partner to have standards but if they expect from me what they are not willing to give in return then they are not ideal. A relationship should be a give and take where both people feel fulfilled and it seems that people have done what people do and added red tape all over the place. Don't be that person who makes it more complicated than is necessary.
